Ready, Set, Engage: How to Get Your Followers to Talk Back
There are a few things social media is good for, but what’s it best at? Building relationships. It’s why your brand is on there in the first place, and the only way to make it possible? Engagement, i.e. when you say something and your audience talks back. It can be measured a few different ways (likes, comments, shares, etc.), but engagement all comes down to proving you’re worth people’s attention, so here are some tips on how to stand out and encourage your followers to engage.
Show who you are.
Before making a new friend, we want to know a bit about them first, and the same is true for your business. Before users connect with you, they have to feel comfortable. So gain their trust: Include information about what you do, showcase brands you’ve worked with, or link out to some of your best customer testimonials. Once you prove you’re the real deal, people won’t hesitate to engage.
Know your audience.
Now that your audience knows who you are, you need to know them. This helps you understand what they’re interested in and want to engage with. Check out your insights on social media to see demographics of your followers, when they’re most active online, and what things they’re into. Get on their level and share content that caters to them.
Respond, respond, respond.
Your social media followers want to know they’re being heard, which is why it’s important for you to show followers you’re listening. Respond to comments, messages, and feedback, and do it quickly so people know they’re a priority. Once followers know you’re a brand that takes time to engage with them, they’ll want to engage right back.
Focus on images.
Images are great at capturing attention. And before people even consider engaging, they need to see you first. Our brains are wired to respond to visual stimuli, so include images in your posts that speak to followers. A single striking image can draw the eye and encourage them to speak their minds.
Speak the same language.
Once you’ve captured your audience’s attention, you need to keep it. How? Speak their language. The way you communicate with your audience should be consistent with the language they use, so ditch the jargon and watch the way they use words. When you’re speaking the same language, they’ll feel comfortable talking back.
